History

Restoration House combines medieval buildings into the city mansion associated with Charles II's overnight stay before the Restoration in 1660. The Grade I house later became a model for Satis House in Dickens's Great Expectations.

Reported activity

Published compilations describe a man crossing the room linked with Charles II, a fleeing young woman and a monk-like figure. A separate archive records a Jacobean woman tradition but also preserves a useful counterpoint: a 1953 ghost hunt reportedly judged the house 'completely without atmosphere'. None of these accounts establishes a supernatural cause.
