Is a Paranormal Investigation Safe? What Our Team Does to Protect You

If you are thinking about contacting a paranormal investigation team but something is holding you back, there is a good chance that "something" is simply being worried. Worried about what might happen during the visit, whether the investigation could stir up more activity, or whether it is safe for your children or pets to be in the house while it is taking place.

These are completely reasonable concerns, and we hear them regularly. You are inviting strangers into your home to look into something that already feels unsettling, something most people in your life probably do not fully understand. It would be strange if you were not a little apprehensive about what comes next.

The short answer is yes, a properly conducted paranormal investigation is safe. But you deserve more than a short answer. You deserve to know exactly what happens, how we prepare, and what we do at KASE Paranormal to make sure you, your family, and your home are looked after before, during, and after every visit.

We Start Before We Arrive

Safety does not begin when the team walks through your front door. It begins during our very first conversation with you.

Before any investigation takes place, we carry out a thorough intake process. We ask about the layout of your home, who lives there, any health considerations we should be aware of, and how the reported activity has been affecting your day-to-day life. We want to understand the full picture, not just the "paranormal" part, but how your household functions, what your routine looks like, and what would make you feel most comfortable during a visit.

If there are children, elderly relatives, or pets in the property, we factor that into every part of our planning. If someone in the household has anxiety, a health condition, or a disability that affects how they experience the home, we want to know about that too. None of this information is shared outside the team. It simply helps us prepare properly and treat your home with the care it deserves.

We also carry out a risk assessment for the property itself. This covers practical things like access points, lighting, trip hazards, uneven flooring, steep staircases, and any structural concerns. If we are investigating an older property with low ceilings, narrow passages, or areas that are difficult to navigate safely, we plan our approach around that. If anything about the environment feels unsafe for physical reasons, we address it before the investigation goes ahead.

This stage also gives you the chance to ask us anything. Many people have questions they feel silly asking, things like "will you need to go into every room?" or "can I stay downstairs while you work?" There are no silly questions. The more we understand about what you need, the better the experience will be for everyone.

You can read more about how we handle initial enquiries and the full investigation process on our private investigations page, which walks through everything from first contact to findings.

What Happens During a Private Investigation

A real investigation looks nothing like what you have seen on television. There is no shouting into the darkness, no provoking, and no one running through your house with a camera looking for a reaction. Our approach is calm, quiet, and methodical, because that is what actually works.

A small team of three to five investigators will arrive at an agreed time. We introduce ourselves properly, explain what we plan to do, and answer any questions you have before we begin. We walk through the areas we intend to cover, show you the equipment we are using, and make sure you understand the purpose of each piece. Nothing happens without your knowledge and consent.

If at any point during the investigation you feel uncomfortable or want us to stop, we stop. No questions asked. You do not need to give a reason. This is your home, and you are always in control of what happens inside it.

Throughout the investigation, at least one team member remains available to you. You are never left alone wondering what is happening in another room. If you want to sit in the kitchen and have a cup of tea while we work, that is fine. If you want to follow us and observe, that is fine too. Some people prefer to be in a completely different part of the house, and others want to be right there for every moment. We have worked with all of these preferences and everything in between.

We do not use spirit boards without your explicit permission. We do not conduct seances, ever. We do not attempt any form of provocation. These methods have no place in a responsible investigation. They tend to escalate anxiety, produce unreliable results, and can leave people feeling worse than they did before. Our methods are grounded in careful observation, environmental monitoring using equipment such as EMF meters, temperature sensors, and audio recorders, and respectful communication techniques. If there is something present, we are not trying to antagonise it. That is not how responsible investigation works, and it is not how we operate.

We also keep the atmosphere as normal as possible. We do not insist on working in total darkness, if that isn’t something you’re comfortable with, because spirits do not need darkness to communicate. Paranormal activity is reported just as frequently during the day and in normal lighting conditions. We typically work in subdued lighting, which allows for better evidence gathering while keeping the environment comfortable for you.

Can a Paranormal Investigation Make Things Worse?

This is probably the most common concern we hear, and it is one we take seriously. The fear that an investigation might "stir things up" or attract more activity is something many people carry, and it is often the single biggest reason people hesitate to get in touch.

In our experience, a well-conducted investigation does not cause activity to increase. We have worked with households across Kent and the South East, and the pattern we see most often is the opposite. People who have been living with unexplained experiences for months or even years frequently tell us they feel calmer and more in control after the investigation, not because the activity has necessarily stopped, but because someone has finally taken their situation seriously and looked at it properly.

There is real power in having your experience acknowledged and examined by people who know what they are doing. Fear thrives on uncertainty. When you have a structured assessment of what is happening in your home, along with clear findings and honest answers, the situation tends to feel far more manageable, even if nothing has physically changed.

We are careful about how we interact with any environment. We do not use methods that are known to escalate anxiety or distress, and we do not leave a property in a worse state than we found it. If there is any reason to believe that a particular approach might not be appropriate for your specific situation, we will discuss that with you openly before going ahead. Your comfort and wellbeing always come first.

If you want to understand more about what to avoid when dealing with suspected activity in your home, our guide on what to do if you think your house is haunted covers this in detail, including why DIY approaches like internet cleansing rituals or amateur seances can sometimes do more harm than good.

Is It Safe for Children and Pets?

We ask that children are not in the property during an investigation. This is a firm part of how we work, and it is there to protect them. An investigation can involve unfamiliar people moving through the house, equipment being set up in different rooms, and conversations about topics that children should not be exposed to. Even if a child seems fine with the idea, the reality of strangers quietly working through their home in the evening is not something they need to experience. The last thing we would ever want to do is create fear or confusion for a young person.

We understand that arranging childcare adds a layer of planning, and we are happy to work around your schedule to find a time that suits. Most families arrange for children to stay with grandparents, friends, or other family members for the evening. We will always give you plenty of notice so you can make those arrangements comfortably. If finding childcare is proving difficult, let us know and we can be flexible with dates and times.

This is not about being overly cautious. It is about doing the right thing. Children do not need to be involved in or around a paranormal investigation, full stop. Their wellbeing comes before everything else, and that is a boundary we will not compromise on.

Pets, on the other hand, are welcome to stay. Most animals settle quickly once they have had a sniff around and decided you are not a threat. Dogs and cats tend to carry on with their normal routine, and their presence rarely causes any issues. If your pet is particularly reactive to strangers or likely to interfere with equipment, we can discuss the best way to manage that beforehand, but in most cases it is not a problem.

Occasionally an animal will react to something we cannot easily explain, and when that happens, we note it as part of our observations. Animals are remarkably perceptive, and their behaviour can sometimes tell us more than any piece of equipment.

Follow-Up Support After the Investigation

The investigation does not end when the team leaves your property. In many ways, the most important part of the process comes after.

We take all of the data we have gathered, including audio recordings, environmental readings, video footage, and our own observational notes, and review everything carefully. This takes time. We do not rush it, and we do not jump to conclusions. Every anomaly is cross-referenced against environmental factors, and we rule out as many ordinary explanations as possible before presenting anything to you.

Once we have completed our review, we arrange a follow-up conversation with you to discuss what we found. We walk you through the evidence, explain what it means, and give you an honest assessment of the situation. If we find nothing unusual, we tell you. If we find something we cannot easily explain, we tell you that too, along with what we think the next steps could be.

If the investigation reveals something that warrants further action, whether that means additional monitoring over a longer period, practical environmental adjustments, or a referral for spiritual support such as a house cleansing, we talk you through every option. We do not make decisions for you. We present the information and let you decide what feels right for your home and your family.

Many of the families we work with tell us that the follow-up support matters just as much as the investigation itself. Knowing that someone is still available to answer questions, revisit the situation if things change, or simply have a conversation when you need reassurance makes a real difference. We do not disappear after one visit.

Honesty About the Limits

We would not be doing our job properly if we told you that a paranormal investigation can guarantee answers. It cannot. No investigation can, regardless of what anyone else in this field might claim.

What it can do is give you a clearer picture of what is happening in your home. It can rule out ordinary causes that you might not have considered. It can identify environmental factors, such as high EMF readings, draughts, structural sounds, or wiring issues, that could be contributing to your experiences. And it can provide a structured, evidence-based assessment of anything that remains unexplained after all of those checks have been carried out.

We cannot promise that all activity will stop after an investigation. We cannot tell you with certainty what is or is not in your home. What we can promise is that we will be honest with you, treat you with respect, take your experience seriously, and never sensationalise what you are going through for our own benefit. That is the foundation of everything we do.
