Dode Church

Dode's modern Dodechild story says a girl from the plague-struck village returns every seven years; an older archive also records a bride walking from the church towards the road.

Dode is a private ceremony venue reached by very narrow rural lanes. There is no general right to enter the church or grounds: attend only for an arranged event or with the owner's permission, and do not block Wrangling Lane.

History

The small flint church is probably twelfth century. The parish was united with Paddlesworth in the fourteenth century, the building was heavily restored in 1905-06 and again later in the twentieth century, and it now operates as a private ceremony venue.

Reported activity

The Paranormal Database explicitly describes the Dodechild as likely modern folklore: a girl is said to have hidden in the church during the Black Death and to reappear every seven years. The same archive records a plague-pit legend and a separate bride-apparition tradition. None is presented as an independently verified encounter, and the popular claim that the whole village was wiped out is historically contested.
