History

Hall Place is a Grade I listed country house built in 1537, with a distinctive flint-and-rubble exterior, a later red-brick courtyard and significant 17th-century interiors. During the Second World War, American personnel worked at the site under the codename Santa Fe, intercepting encoded German communications for onward analysis at Bletchley Park. Hall Place is now run by the London Borough of Bexley.

Reported activity

Local folklore attaches three figures to Hall Place: a woman often called Lady Constance, a maidservant associated with the attic and an armoured figure sometimes identified as the Black Prince. The identities and dramatic death narratives vary across retellings and are not supported by the venue's published house history, so this record classifies them as folklore rather than documented events.
