History

Chislehurst Caves are an extensive network of man-made passages beneath present-day Bromley, retained here because they formed part of historic Kent and appear in KASE's existing directory. The caves have been used for chalk and flint extraction, as a large Second World War air-raid shelter and later as a music venue. Public entry is by guided tour only; the mapped point is the visitor entrance, not a guessed underground extent.

Reported activity

The best-known cave story concerns a White Lady associated with the deeper passages. Other accounts describe voices, laughter, oppressive sensations and unusual sounds.
