Fort Burgoyne

History
Fort Burgoyne, first called Castle Hill Fort, was built from 1861 to 1873 to protect the high ground north of Dover Castle and the port below. Historic England describes a major polygonal fort with detached eastern and western redoubts; the Land Trust now manages the site for its historic, ecological and community value.
Reported activity
The fort has accumulated reports of footsteps, voices, figures and strong sensations in its tunnels and casemates. KASE's published 2025 case study provides the clearest first-party record: two teams logged whistles within a short window, motion and light events, repeated trigger activations and a laser-grid interruption that was tested against a physical pass-through.
KASE perspective
KASE investigated Fort Burgoyne on 27 September 2025. The case study records methods, timestamps and possible contamination rather than turning every incident into a paranormal claim. The site is managed and access-controlled; the investigation took place under licence and does not imply that the public can enter the fort outside advertised openings.
Visiting responsibly
The main fort is closed except for advertised events. The West Wing Battery has limited published weekday opening and parts of the surrounding estate have public access; check the Land Trust page before travelling. Check the venue or landowner's current information before travelling, respect closures and private property, and never enter unsafe or restricted areas.
