History

Leeds Castle's official history records a stone castle from 1119, later used by six medieval queens and transformed by Henry VIII for Catherine of Aragon. The buildings occupy islands in the River Len and the wider estate is now a major ticketed visitor attraction.

Reported activity

The best-known supernatural tradition is a phantom black dog seen in or around the castle. Later retellings connect it with a woman accused of witchcraft, but the source chain is uncertain. Black-dog stories occur across English folklore, so this entry is kept at folklore level.
