History
Upnor Castle is a Grade I Elizabethan artillery fort built in 1559-67 and expanded in 1599-1601 to protect ships at Chatham. The Dutch fleet passed it during the 1667 raid; the castle was subsequently adapted for storing naval gunpowder and later used as an ordnance laboratory.
Reported activity
A local paranormal archive records visitors mistaking a uniformed figure for a costumed interpreter. It also reproduces details from an early-1996 Chatham Standard report in which security staff described repeated alarm call-outs and doors found unlocked after the site had been secured. These are reported experiences, not evidence of a supernatural cause.
KASE perspective
KASE has not investigated Upnor Castle. The newspaper trail and named custodian recollections justify a documented-report classification, but the surviving account is secondary and should not be presented as proof. Any future investigation would require explicit site permission.
